TACOMA, Washington (April 18, 2022) – Bethel School District’s 2022 Levy Renewal has earned and endorsement from the Tacoma-Pierce County Association of REALTORS® (TPCAR). The proposals on the April 26 ballot seek to extend funding for an educational programs and operations levy, as well as a technology levy, for the district which serves more than 20,000 students in 31 schools.

“We know that homebuyers care about having quality schools in their neighborhoods. The proposed levy renewals in Bethel School District will ensure that the District can continue to operate at its current capacity and that there are no reductions to essential services provided to student by the District” stated James Fisher, TPCAR’s Board President.

The proposed levy renewals for educational programs and operations, and technology, are at the same existing rates of $2.17 and $0.31 per $1,000 assessed value, respectively, for 2023 – 26.

In the wake of the District’s double levy failure in February, the School Board has authorized both levy renewals to rerun in the April 26th Special Election. This is the last election available before the end of the school year and will allow us to plan accordingly for the 2022-23 budget. Levy renewals require a 50% + 1 simple majority to be approved.

Members of TPCAR’s Governmental Affairs Committee voted to support the measures following a presentation and discussion with levy representatives.
